Metallica               announced               today               that               it               will               perform               July               8               at               the               new               Wembley               Stadium               in               London               as               part               of               its               new               summer               tour.

The               stadium               reopened               recently               after               the               original               Wembley               stadium               was               razed               in               2002.

The               concert               will               be               part               of               Metallica's               'Sick               of               the               Studio               07'               summer               tour.

The               'Sick               of               the               Studio               07'               tour               was               created               to               give               Metallica               a               brief               break               from               recording               their               new               album               which               is               due               to               be               released               in               2008.
               "Sometimes               we               get               a               little               tired               of               staring               at               the               same               four               walls               of               the               recording               studio,               as               well               as               the               same               faces               that               inhabit               the               studio               day               in               and               day               out,               and               we               need               to               get               out               and               just               PLAY!"               said               Metallica's               Lars               Ulrich.

"This               tour               gives               us               a               chance               to               stretch               out               a               bit               and               jam               in               front               of               real               fans."
               "Metallica               have               a               history               of               needing               to               escape               from               the               studio               during               the               long               recording               process,               and               it's               always               worked               out               well               for               us.

Getting               out               on               the               road               for               a               few               weeks               lets               us               feed               off               of               the               energy               from               the               live               crowds               and               take               it               back               into               the               studio               with               us."               added               frontman               James               Hetfield.
               The               Wembley               Stadium               reconstruction               was               completed               March               9.

The               reconstruction               was               plagued               with               delays               and               missed               its               mid-2006               deadline               badly.

Metallica               will               be               the               first               American               band               to               play               the               new               Wembley               Stadium.
               The               first               music               act               to               play               the               new               stadium               will               be               George               Michael               on               June               9               and               10,               folloed               by               the               U.K.

band               Muse               the               next               weekend.
               Metallica,               formed               in               1981,               has               gone               from               an               underground               heavy               metal               band               to               one               of               the               most               successful               bands               in               rock               music.

Metallica's               albums               have               sold               over               95               million               copies               worldwide.

Their               "Black               Album"               has               earned               the               RIAA               Diamond               Award               which               goes               to               an               album               that               has               sales               of               over               10               million               copies               in               the               U.S.
               Metallica               has               also               collected               many               awards               over               their               career               including               seven               Grammy               Awards,               two               American               Music               Awards,               two               MTV               Video               Music               Awards,               a               VH1               Award,               the               ESPN               Action               Sports               and               Music               Artist               Contribution               Award,               over               30               California               Music               Awards,               and               several               more.
               Metallica               also               had               a               documentary               film               released               about               the               band.

"Metallica:               Some               Kind               of               Monster"               was               directed               by               filmmakers               Joe               Berlinger               and               Bruce               Sinofsky               and               premiered               at               the               Sundance               Film               Festival               in               February               2004.

The               film               was               nominated               for               several               critics               choice               awards               and               won               "Best               Documentary"               at               the               2005               Independent               Spirit               Awards.
